Sweet Tooth

If you are like most people, it’s hard to turn down the leftover Halloween candy. At first, it starts as just a sweet addition to your lunch. Then, it becomes a go to after work treat. The next thing you know, you are on the couch catching up on your favorite TV show with the whole trick or treat bag in your lap.

While there is nothing wrong with a little indulgence, these sugary temptations can take a serious toll on your teeth. Some candies can be less harmful than others.

Here is some advice with some of the candy you may be enjoying:

Chewy/sticky candy can get stuck in the deep crevices of the teeth  This can make it very difficult for  your toothbrush to wash them away which will lead to tooth decay.

Sour candies are highly acidic and can wear down tooth enamel. If you find yourself snacking on sour treats, wait about 30 minutes before you brush your teeth.   Otherwise, you are just brushing the acid into the tooth’s surface. The safer option is to swish with water and then wait 10 minutes to brush.

We hope you enjoyed your Halloween and hope these tips help you through the rest of the holiday season!
